Little Secrets/Power of the Sun

Thu Apr 26, 2007, 8:11 AM
Isn’t it amazing, the power of the sun? All it takes is a little sunshine and everyone is that little bit happier, that little more social and all together happier. I love this campus, now more than ever. Here’s a riddle for you, Q: What’s better than a campus full of squirrels, bunnies and ducks? A: A campus full of baby squirrels, bunnies and ducks. It is so awesome to be by the lake right now. One month left to go and first year is over. It’s ending all around me already, today was our last media lecture, yesterday was my last English seminar, and this time next week it’s all over. I’ve been having the best week, well week and a bit. I’m taking on a bigger and more demanding role in AirTV, and this is giving me the push to get these ideas onto film. I’m getting interest from both writers and actors for the sketch show, I hope I can pull it all together before semester ends. The Oscars are coming up and I’m hoping to at least win one statue-ette, seeing as I’ll be ineligible next year. Speaking of movies, I got a chance to be on my first film set on Saturday, me and Glyn were runners for ‘A Dying Breed’, a post-apocalyptic low-budget affair shooting a few miles away. The people there were great and the whole experience was invaluable. On Sunday I got to spend some time with JD which I’d been meaning to do, we went to the Muay-Thai Boxing tournament, which was great after the 17 hour day before it, and it’s got me thinking about going for Head of Sport at AirTV not Equipment Officer. There’s a lot of potential in using our combat sport clubs as content. Rightly publicised I could imagine it would be popular. But already my time next year is starting to get booked, I’m applying for my dream job in town, and hopefully it’ll open just in time as I finish exams. Somewhere in my time I’ve got to watch more Arrested Development, House, Lost, and Heroes, which only going off the pilot seems like a really good mix of the first X-men film and Magnolia, with a bit of Lost for good measure. On Wednesday I got to meet Victor’s brother and a girl, Jaki, who’s a 4th year F&M student (And Doug’s flatmate). Now I’m working to finish this Philosophy essay on animal rights for Monday, and an essay on my sonnet before the end of semester. Oh and it’s almost a week til Spider-man 3 and we’re all pumped and ready to head over to Falkirk again for the day, which despite the price is totally worth it for what I hope will be the best blockbuster of the year in the way Casino Royale was last year. I so cannot wait for the summer as well, it looks like Gaz is pretty set on coming up and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather live and work with. It’ll be so good to properly catch up after this crazy year. I’m anticipating the future more than wishing to relive the past, which is about the first time ever for me. I’ve lived here 8 months, but I’m still finding little secrets and secret places. I’m going to miss the people leaving soon, I feel like I’m only just getting to know them. But as I’ve said before, I don’t fear endings anymore. Kermit the Frog once put it best, “Life is made up of meetings and partings.” And we should not mourn the end, but rejoice at what was and was so great to have been.

BONUS: Where did I get my title? First correct answer gets a healthy heap of hero points!
